Los Angeles, CA downtown in the hazy distance with palm trees in the foreground

I’m holding you in my heart, LA.

Los Angeles, I can’t stop thinking about you. Watching the news coverage of what’s happening is devastating. It’s apocalyptic, unreal, and yet I know…horribly real. My mind knows the facts, but my heart can’t fully process the scale of it all.

My favorite people are among your ranks. They are my chosen family and I have been in touch with them as they have navigated the impossible. I know people who have had to evacuate without notice and those who have watched the flames and smoke from afar in horror. It’s all the stuff of nightmares.

But even through tears, I see you, LA. I see your firefighters and first responders, superheroes without capes, facing down the inferno to save lives. I see neighbors carrying each other’s kids and pets to safety and volunteers rescuing horses and coyotes alongside cats and dogs. Your bravery and big, open hearts are extraordinary. In a dark time, you are each other’s light.

If love alone could douse those flames, you’d be more than safe – you’d be utterly drenched in an ocean of it. You are so cherished. By me, by everyone who’s had the privilege of knowing your wild, creative, beautifully diverse spirit.

I know you are still in it. And we don’t know when the world will find its footing. But you’ve got millions at your back. You are forever a City of Angels. We’re here for you, and we’re not going anywhere.

Sending all my strength and ferocious love. You’ve got this—day by day, step by step, hand in hand. You will rise again.

xoxo – Elisabeth
